"Crafting Your Elevator Pitch: Essential Tips from a Career Coach"

Embarking on the journey of acing the "Tell me about yourself" question in interviews can be a game-changer, and I have a reliable formula that has proven effective. Let's break it down so that you feel confident, capable and competent, to communicate your strengths and value proposition with impact. Research say's that you have up to 9 seconds to engage a person in that initial meet and greet, "ice breaking" part of the interview. Knowing this will save you the grief of fumbling through your Elevator Pitch.


Here are by top 6 tips to master the Pitch


1. Start Strong:


Open with warmth and enthusiasm. "Greetings! I'm [Your Name], and I'm excited to share a glimpse of my journey with you today." This position's you as genuine, natural, authentic and YOU. What an interview wants to hear and see is your personality and this is a great opening pitch line.


2. Professional Snapshot:


Give a quick overview of your professional background, highlighting key roles and achievements relevant to your field. I am an experienced [insert your profession, the target role], In my most recent position I [list 3 key achievements]


3. Highlight Your Unique Strengths and Skills: Illuminate your core skills, focusing on at least three that align with the job requirements. This strategic alignment sets a positive tone. [I have demonstrated capabilities in - list your high value strengths which will solve the problem for the client]. Remember, your elevator pitch's purpose is to "sell" you into the role.


4. Current Situation: Offer a snapshot of your current role, detailing your title, responsibilities, and any exciting projects you're currently involved in. [In my current role I am accountable for - give breadth, depth, complexity] because this also goes to the heart of the fit for the role, as well as the skills


5. Express Aspirations: Briefly touch on your career goals, emphasising how they align with the mission and goals of the companies you're targeting. [I am looking for, (align to the vision, values, purpose]


6. End on a Positive Note: Conclude with a statement expressing your enthusiasm for future opportunities and your eagerness to contribute. [where my skills, strengths (list these as your most valuable asset) will solve [insert the key problem, challenge] for your [insert organisation]
